Meta AI new ‘Imagine me’ selfie feature : Meta AI, Meta’s AI assistant that runs across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and the web is now capable of communicating in multiple languages and taking stylized selfies. Starting this week, users of Meta AI can now send queries directly to Llama 3.1 405B AI algorithm that Meta claims can answer more complex queries than its previous model that underpinned Meta AI.
Question is whether these modifications will enhance your Meta AI experience, which many critics including TechCrunch’s Devin Coldewey found utterly inadequate at its launch. Initial versions of Meta AI often struggled with facts and numbers as well as web search; and often failed basic tasks like finding recipes or flights.
The Llama 3.1 405B could make a significant impactful contribution in the near future. Meta claims that its latest model excels at solving math and coding questions, making it ideal for math homework and explaining scientific concepts, troubleshooting code issues, etc.
Meta AI users will have to manually switch over to Llama 3.1 405B before being able to utilize it and are limited to a certain number of queries per week before Meta AI automatically switches back over to an less capable model (Llama 3.1 70B).
Meta’s current designation of the Llama 3.1 405B implementation as an “early look” speaks volumes.
Generative selfies
Meta AI uses an entirely different generative AI model, not Llama 3.1 405B, to power the Generative Selfies feature.
Imagine Yourself is a program that creates images based on photographs of individuals and prompts such as, “Imagine myself surfing,” or, “Imagine myself enjoying a beach trip.” Meta AI users can activate it by typing, “Imagine Me” followed by whatever else they wish to imagine that is not inappropriate content.
Meta did not detail which details they used in order to create Imagine Yourself; however, their terms of service clearly state that any public images and posts shared through its platforms are considered fair game for Imagine Yourself. Unfortunately, many users do not support their opt-out process which hasn’t gone down well with everyone who uses Imagine Yourself.
Step one in joining Imagine Yourself in Meta AI involves new editing tools that allow users to edit, delete or modify objects using prompts such as “Change the cat into Corgi.” Starting next month, Meta AI will feature an “Edit using AI” button for fine-tuning options; as soon as those users access these shortcuts for sharing AI-generated photos via feeds, stories and comments throughout Meta applications they will also have easier access to new shortcuts for sharing those photos across feeds, stories and comments within Meta applications, Meta says.
Quest’s software now supports new languages
Meta AI will also replace the Voice Commands feature on Meta Quest VR headsets in North America in an experimental mode roll-out, offering passthrough capabilities so users can ask questions about objects around them; Meta asks users, for instance, “Look and tell me which shirt would go best with these shorts” when holding up shorts for example.
Meta AI is now available in 22 countries worldwide, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Cameroon. Support for French, German, Hindi-Romanized Script. Italian Portuguese Spanish (IPS). These will all soon follow as Meta promises more languages in its pipeline.
